How do recruitment consultants make money?
If you’re considering a career in recruitment and researching the industry, one of the first things you’ll want to understand is how recruitment consultants make their money. In this article, we cover the basics of what commission means in the context of recruitment.
What is a commission in recruitment?
Commission pay is a type of income earned by achieving specific goals or targets, such as placing a candidate or acquiring a new client. The amount of commission earned can vary and this method of payment is commonly used in industries such as sales, estate agency, and recruitment. If you are considering a job that pays on commission, it is important to understand the commission structure and what you can expect to earn.
Many recruitment agencies have limitations on the amount of commission that can can earn (also known a capped commission). or have commission thresholds that must be met before commission can be earned. However, at Whitehall, we believe in rewarding hard work and do not have any thresholds in place. Our commission structure is fair and uncapped, enabling you to earn commission from the first deal you make, with no maximum limit.
How much commission do recruiters make?
Typically, the higher the value of the job placement, the greater the commission earned. However, the commission structure can vary from employer to employer.
At Whitehall, our commission structure is one of the strongest in the industry. It is transparent and straightforward, taking into account whether the placement comes from a self-sourced client or an existing client. The commission earned can vary depending on whether the consultant is working a contract or permanent placement due to the nature of the role.
Whitehall is a specialist SAP and IT recruitment agency, which means that the average daily rate of the consultants we place is around £400/day or £50,000+ for permanent placements. This results in the potential for high levels of commission earnings and earning more than peers in other industries.
Additional Incentives
In addition to our commission structure, Whitehall offers a generous incentive program that allows employees to increase their base salary by achieving quarterly billing targets. This can also serve as a path for career progression. As employees gain experience, they may have the opportunity to advance to positions such as team lead, managing consultant, or business manager. Many of Whitehall’s senior managers, managers, team leads, and even the sales director have advanced in the company by starting as recruitment consultants.
As part of the incentive program, we also offer monthly, and quarterly rewards, such as bottles of fizz, gift cards, and even trips to our Portugal villa.
